proof that peta does something useful now and then

i'm glad that video like this makes it out to the mass media to shed some light on the inhumane practices in slaughterhouses and factory farms.  kicking, beating, and raping animals does not need to be done in the process of sending an animal to slaughter.  but even if the animal is handled "humanely" the whole time, killing is still the worst form of abuse there is.

Man in NY jumps from plane with camera but no parachute, dies

DUANESBURG, N.Y. (AP) - Police in New York state say a 29-year-old man leaped out of a plane at 10,000 feet with a camera but no parachute yesterday.

Officials say the man was observing on the flight, when he followed an instructor, student and videographer out the door, wearing no skydiving gear.

Police say they do not suspect foul play but they are not elaborating.

The pilot and owner of the Duanesburg Skydiving Club says he had begun to close the door when the man jumped. His body was found next to a house with a damaged roof west of Albany.

great news:

a parent is not responsible for a child's psychological well-being!

o rly?

maybe not entirely in the situation they describe, but that's a completely ridiculous blanket statement to make.

psychology today is just a bunch of pop-psych feel-good fluff anyway.  i always knew it, this just puts the icing on the cake.

Westboro Baptist Church, famous for picketing funerals such as those of Matthew Shepard, American soldiers, and Heath Ledger, will be in Kalamazoo on Feb 29 picketing Kalamazoo Central High School's compassionate and educational performance of The Laramie Project (reference their press release at http://www.godhatesfags.com/written/fliers/20080118_laramie-project-kalamazoo.pdf).

My friends with Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays Southwest Michigan will be part of a peaceful demonstration of support of the students, school, and performance that day. You can contact PFLAG SWM's president, Narda Beauchamp, at bnbeauchamp@charter.net for more information, including when to attend a planning meeting for this event.
Also, there is some basic event information below but this might need tweaking.

Support the freedom of speech that Westboro Baptist Church is practicing via using it for progressive means. Please forward this to all those you think might be interested and/or those who will forward it on as well.
